Supercharger for towing or cam & headers
 

Hello everybody,
New to the forums. I have a 2015 2500hd z71 4x4 w/ 6.0l L96. I pull a 7k trailer a couple of weekends a month and it's my daily driver (100 miles a day). I am wanting to improve towing and fuel economy. Not to beat a dead horse with the same old questions, but a little nervous about installing a supercharger for towing. I have a complete LSA supercharger and Ls9 cam I was going to install along with long tube headers and 4" single exhaust. My fear is to be towing over steep grades for long periods of time and having the engine under boost too long and end up with a rod hanging out the side of the block. Is this logic wrong or should I sell the supercharger and cam kit and buy a different cam (one more n/a friendly)? Or even a 408 stroker w/ stock heads and small cam? Just don't want to make the wrong decision. Thanks for any help or opinions.

Supercharger is the way to go. The LSA blower will take more work to install than you may anticipate. Skip the LS9 cam. It's not going to be good for bottom end power at all.

So no worries with the sc? I already have the install kit from LSSimple. I was thinking of going with the btr stage 2 truck cam, thoughts?

Supercharger is an awesome idea although I agree making it work is tough. I would skip the LS9 cam. Not a good towing cam .

What will be the difficult part of the install? Has anybody here done this swap that can give me some insight. Again, is there no fear of being boosted for long hauls?

It will likely take less boost than you think and I wouldn't worry about it. You wont be wide open for 2 minutes at a time. You may go in and out of boost at say 3500 rpm on a steady incline. Use the manual shift function on the column shifter to aid you and keep it in a lower gear and the combo will work great.

I put a maggie TVS1900 on my 04 2500 4x4. A year later I also installed the ls9 cam with a smaller pulley. You my lose a little torque down low with that cam but remember, it was made for boosted motors. When it starts to build boost it works great. Off boost it may be a little less torquey feeling but not much.All I tow is my 3000 lbs bass boat. Nothing as heavy as you are.. If it worries you leave the cam out but the sc will really help. I for one am glad I installed the ls9 cam. Night and day for the fun factor.

Also, you should have the 6 speed transmission in yours, correct? If so, it will make the slight loss of torque just off idle when not in boost even less noticeable. My .02.

Yes it has the 6l90 6 speed and 4.10 gears. What did that setup do to you mpg?

Also, my headers showed up today. Hopefully they fit, I will try to install tomorrow after work.
