Default 97 2500 6.5 turbo diesel

So I have a 97 6.5 diesel, and its taking forever to start, I believe it's a fuel pressure issue, but I don't know **** about diesels, also, Im losing coolant, head gasket? Or is there another common thing that goes on with those to make them do that?

Start it up on the drivers side frame rail there is a fuel lift pump. You should hear it braap braap braap braap every few seconds if it doesn't then check for 12V at the electrical connector.

If there is not 12 V present then check the oil pressure sending unit and you will probably find it burned up. It's a mudda fricka to get at also. Then replace the lift pump, and oil pressure sending unit and electrical connector at at the same time. The main injection pumps internal pump can pull through a dead pump but it causes poor performance long starts and shortens the life of the injection pump which was a piece of crap the day it was new.

As far as loosing coolant if it's not loosing it externally and you can't smell it then it will be a headgasket and those motors were terrible about cracking heads just from normal use you don't have to get it hot to have cracked heads on those.
