Default 8.1L Whipple 2.9L Supercharger

Hey all, we just finished the mockup stage with the 2.9L whipple kit.

No one else makes a blower kit for these motors, so we had to fabricate everything but the blower. All of the parts have been sent off to our CAD team for development and then once we test out the plastic molds, we'll be casting the intake manifold portion for the 2.9L blower. We're hoping to have this kit ready in the near future (4-6 months).

Good job on the making the lower manifold! How different is the 8.1 head intake pattern from the older BBC heads?

The good news is the lower manifold should work for the larger 3.3 and 4.0 blowers as well!

8.1L = cathedral port heads
BBC = rectangular / oval port heads

The 3.3L and 4.0L blowers won't fit in a 99-on truck unless you remove the cowl / firewall and hood, but in a hot rod or custom application it would be a good method of shoving a ton of air into the motor.

Definitly subscribed. What supporting parts would be necessary on an otherwise stock motor? Will it be DIY install?

We're guesstimating that the 2.9L will make 8-10 pounds of boost. You will NOT be able to run this kit on stock pistons, rods and crank. In marine applications, this amount of boost routinely grenades the stock cast pistons. You'll need to replace your rotating assembly with a forged setup to run this kit.

Seems like a pretty small market?

It definitely is, but then again most people don't need 750-800hp out of their daily driver.

We debated making a low boost 5-6lb kit, but that means a larger pulley which doesn't clear the hood. It also means that everyone who buys a low boost kit will eventually swap the pulley, blow their motor and then call us angry. We'd rather that people built the motor right from the start and have years of trouble free operation.

So we're screwed if we want low 5-6 psi boost then?

Course I know your probably have it specd for sea level, stroker kits and altitude affect pulley size for same boost with Whipple.
