That seems to be the general consensus unfortunately.

I don't really want another diesel truck, had a lot of issues with the 08 cummins truck I had with emissions crap. I don't know if the new ones are any better but for now I don't want another truck payment this one is just about paid off and I want to try to get a bunch of other **** paid off first, car finished, some stuff around the house, etc....

So I'm likely in the same boat you're in.

Maybe when I have a good chunk of it saved up we can get a Maggie group purchase going. if we could get that 6195 down some on a GP maybe next year, I'd be interested.

So for now, I'm gonna get the exhaust done, get some electric fans on the thing, so when I'm ready to pull the trigger on the supercharger it's set.

if you have a spare set of cathedral heads laying around....the huge valves in the square port heads lend themselves to a lazy bottom end. especially in heavy trucks. 317 heads can be found cheap as well as a TBSS intake fully dressed. mill the 317 .030 for a compression bump. are you in the Houston area? I have fully dressed 99-07 classic intake manifolds in my way that I would sell cheap.

the racers love the square port heads. with the right deals, you might be able to make a dime and gain some down low torque.

I'm in Connecticut, head swap is a thought but the added comp, when heavy towing I worry would start detonating. We have some hills where I have to go, that aren't short. Like miles upwards.

milling 317 will get you somewhere around 10.0:1 compression...people tow with tbss at 10.9:1 with no problem. it's all in the tune. just tell your tuner the intentions with the truck. if my heads ever need to come off, I will mill them. i'm not going to pull them just to mill though.

my compression calculations are on a lq4. forgot you are in a newer truck.

Yes this is a 2015. So this is an iron block, ls3 headed with VVT I believe.....

A lot going on there with new stuff on the older iron block. I 1/2 wondered why they didn't put one of the newer 6.2 motors in but I think, that there had to be concern with the block holding up to heavy duty use, and the still in question direct injection at the time.

I can't say that I'm happy or sad with the situation. Truck doesn't tow bad, and it gets up and goes pretty good as it is, but I'd like to see it pull from the 1100 rpm that the factory tune will let it lug down to up a little better. Sometimes when you slow and make a left hand turn for example and don't step on it hard enough to get it to downshift again it will lug at 1100 up, and that's where it seems lacking in power to me.

I would be willing to bet a tune alone would probably help that a good bit, but if I'm going to spend the $ to have one done I want to have a reason, and have enough stuff done so that it needs it for the mods.

Speed engineering has a header setup that I'm thinking about but it has no provisions for cats and CT's emissions will look for them, so I'd have to figure out how to trick that, maybe a set of the vibrant hollow ones or something I dunno.

sounds like you would be happy with a transmission tune.

Possible that just tuning the truck could resolve some of my issue. Adding grunt... never hurts either :-)

Get a GOOD tune done on it and put a tank of E85 through it. I was skeptical but there is a good bit of power there just by changing fuel. I'm not running it all the time, but I do try to run the tank way empty and fill it all the way up with 85 whenever I know I'll be towing something heavy. I usually put a tank in it for the weekends. Even on gas I run a tank a day through the thing. I'll get two days at most, I cover some miles. My '15 has 110K, my 01 has right at 100 lol.

Just go buy a 16 Duramax. They are much more reliable than a Cummins...
