2011+ front diff vs older

Anyone know if the '11 and up front diff are stronger than the previous clamshell type? Just curious. Thanks!

i would imagine they are being they are more of a solid casting with a actual ring gear cover. Plus the mounting points are more tight on the case if that makes sense, less leverage on the case when under high tq loads? Kinda hard to explain... anyways internals are the same but yes i would say the case is stronger. being the 07+ 1500 and the 2011+ 2500 have a lot closer mounting mounts then the previous body styles i been real interested in trying to swap the 2011+ 9.25 in place of my 8.25. My 8.25 has handled plenty of abuse but want to put a LSD in the front for the track.

Thats kinda where I was going with it. Ive got a 6" lift and 3" body And would really like to try and squeeze a '11+ front diff up there. I run a machine shop so making any adapters is a breeze. I see them on ebay for pretty cheap. Would it be worth a shot?

If you manage to get it to work let me know I would like to do the same. Custom axles would have to be ordered but I was already planning on getting some RCV’s anyways.

I have an 08 Avalance that is 2wd, i have a front frame section from a 4wd that i am cutting the front diff frame mounts off of to weld to my 2wd frame, and i was thinking about trying to use an 11+ 9.25 front diff in mine as i found a brand new one local for 350 bucks and its the same 3.73 ratio as my stock rear axle.

Has anyone tried this yet? It looks like the mount brackets that the diff bots to may be the same where they bolt to the frame.
