2007 Emisions changes?
 

I am looking at buying a new Duramax, but ive heard the fuel they need is different and the have some type of filter on the exhaust that needs replaced every so often? Should i just try and find an 06 or Can the 07 be modified like the older models? Thanks-TIM

great link there, I wander if the new "filter" on the exhaust can be removed or if a sensor will be placed there??

My guess is there won't be a sensor but like the CAT if you remove it it will probably throw a code. Also since it came from the factory it will be required for inspection. I just ordered an MBRP exhaust with a CAT delete pipe and will see if I get codes or not.

No you won't set a code by removing the caton your truck and just like the egr valve, if you use the right software you can shut it off and bypass it and not get a light on. This is why the efilive is the best for chevy/gmc trucks. If you live in a state where they do smog inspections then you have a whole nother problem. On the LLY the egr system is the stupidest thing I have ever seen designed. They thought that they were doing something good by trying to cool down the egr by running the exhuast through a cooler using the engine coolant to try and remove some of the heat. BUT what actually happens is the 1300-1600 degree exhuast heats the coolant up instead and causes the engine to overheat when pulling a heavy load for a long period of time. Bad idea on there part. If they wanted to lower the emissions they should have done it with the programming. EGR systems have proven to be more of a pollutent than a good thing.

so how do you get around the egr? can you remove it and will it harm the engine? I have HP tuners and hopefully in the future i can do some tricks to the diesel.

I don't know about HP Tuner but EFILive doesn't work on the LBZ yet as far as I know. You can get a blocker plate and a Fingers stick to block off the exhaust flow thru the EGR and the Fingers stick will prevent codes from blocking the EGR valve. There are tons of posts over at The Diesel Place about the EGR Blocker and stick.
