1999 NBS 2500 5.3 pickup, what transmission?

Looking at a 99 2500 non HD, single cab long box 2wd. Its got the 5.3 but I'm not finding what transmission its got online. Hoping for the 4l80e obviously.

Maybe its really a 1500 that someone stuck 2500 badges on,or the 6.0 got pulled and a 5.3 installed? I also thought that 6.0/4L80E was the base 2500 drivetrain.

Its got 8 lug wheels as well so I doubt that its a badge swap. Kbb lists 5.3 as an option for 1999 2500s...although not sure how good of a source they are.

According to Car-Part.com the 5.3 was an option for 1999 and 2000 probably due to the light duty 2500. It also lists the 5.3 transmission as the 4L60.

60e is pretty easy to identify.. look for the servo on the passenger side...

5.3 will have aluminum head, 6.0 will have cast

If its a 3/4 ton it should be a 6.0 with a 4l80e,in 99-2000 the 6.0 had iron heads and block .they never made an iron head 5.3 so look at your heads

Chevy_King1500 03-28-2014 06:24 PM

yea I ment to say iron instead of cast

gonzo 6.2 03-28-2014 07:13 PM
