I have the exact same thing and love it. My dad has the 9mm and loves it too, great guns.

I have no idea about the difference. I wanted the .45 but i figured the wife could shoot the .40 easier. I have been told that I can swap just the barrel in this gun and make it a 9mm

Yea, even the 9mm is scooped up quickly in my area. Still a crazy market.

As with any gun made in different calibers... All else being equal, the 9mm will be the most tame of the rounds, the .40 will be loud, snappy and have a tendency to muzzle flip more than the others and the .45 will be more of a push and shove type recoil. It's a heavier bullet but a much lower pressure round than the .40.

I prefer to carry my .40's over the 9mm and .45 both. More power than the 9, better ammo etc.. More capacity than the .45's... This is my personal take on it and every round has their own place, you'll get a thousand different answers. It's a matter of your type of use and carry and who you ask. I've carried my Shield every day for no less than 8-10hrs a day since I bought it early this yr, minus the 3 days we were in the hospital having our daughter. I've put close to 2000 rounds thru mine with the only malfunction being ammo related. The M&P line in any caliber or size is an excellent firearm for the money.
