Default AR-10 owners?

I was looking at AR-15's and trying to get the jist of the build of these guns. I like the 20" barrel ar15, but the ar10 sparked an interest. AR10 is the only 308 reciver, right? I would like a larger caliber to start with, but would like a 223/5.56 for a ssar setup for a bump auto. Would it be better to just get a ar15 lower, and get different uppers, or get a ar10? A 6.8 would not be bad. What about the other larger round uppers for an AR15? Sorry for the newbie questions?

personally, I would get the 5.56 lower and then look into different uppers if for whatever shooting you plan on. The aftermarket support for the 15 is alot better

That is what I was thinking. So, a 5.56 lower will work with a 6.8 upper, or bigger caliber?

I want a bigger round than a 243 personally. Not that a 243 is bad, I just wanted a bigger round, and more boom.

can you build an ar10 like you can an ar15?

yes, and no you cant always build an ar10 the same because the lowers are different sizes and the ar10 doesnt have much support in the aftermarket

FYI a .308 upper will not fit on a 5.56 lower. you should get a multi cal lower, you can do 5.56, 6.5, 6.8, .300 BLK all sorts of nifty lil cailbers. im about to build a .300BLK upper myself

Honestly, build an AR15 first. If you feel the need to change caliber, do so after you have become familiar with the weapon system. What are your intentions with the AR? Hunting? Plinkin?

yes to all. I will do mostly hog hunting, then plinking. I would like to build one with a .50 beowolf just for fun, and have a cheap 223 plinking upper, and buy a 6.8 or 300blk or ? later. I like the odd guns, big chambers etc. I am one of the only guys on this forum still into black powder. And I like old surplus arms, and world militaria. You know, **** you dont see everyday.
