Tuning out the charge fault indicator
Can the battery light activation be tuned out of the PCM? I swapped to a 320A alternator and apparently once the regulator is started the PCM cannot do an alternator disable for economy/stall saver. The DTC that sets is P1637, but I don't know if messing with it will stop the light from flashing randomly.
It's nice to make a cool 70A @ 14.5v hot idle (no voltage droop at all), but the blinking battery light is driving me nuts. And yes, it will do 172A at idle.
Picture because

You can disable the code but it sounds like something is wrong with your new alternator.
Look at this chart.

Seated clean, pulled the connector apart and cleaned the contacts too. I will test the signal voltage tomorrow and see if it is getting 10v.
It does sound like the regulator might be randomly grounding out the signal circuit.

When I installed 02 OS, I had to suppress the alt code, but I'm not sure if this is the same issues or not. Also, I wasn't aware that a 2002 PCM had control over the alternator since it's only a 2 wire alt. I know the 05 up the pcm controls.
Also, most aftermarket alts are junk with cheap internal parts. This one looks higher quality, it does appear to have a billet case.
