It is not practical to try to convert a foot-operated starter to push-button or key-turn operation. However, you can easily replace your starter with a solenoid type.

In your case you will need to use a 6 volt starter from a 49-54 passenger car. A later 12 volt starter will not mesh properly with your "6 volt" flywheel because the gear tooth pitch is different. The 6 volt starter will usually survive quite well on 12 volts. If you decide to use a 12 volt starter instead, then you will also need to replace the flywheel with one from a 55-62 235 car or truck.

I have wiring diagrams for year 2000 GMC/Chevy 1500, 2500, and 3500 if that would help. Since you won't tell us what year or even brand of truck that you want to put the button on, I decided that you have a '52 Chevy pickup with an inline six.

I found the diagram instantly with a Google search.

It seems that it was the purple wire since the 1950s. Cut the purple wire (A) at the column connector. Run a wire from one side of your button to the wire that you removed from the connector. Piggyback the other wire from your button to the red wire (D).
Now the key won't crank the engine, but the button will. Done.
