Chevy truck fans running after truck is turned off
#11
Any luck? updates?
Hello,
I have the same problem. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500.
I got the smoke from the exhaust, engine running rough, knock sensor code, misfire code, and the radiator fans running when everything is turned off.
I took my truck to the shop 3 times and they replaced the PCM computer.
I am still having these same problems.
Anyone have any solutions?

Pretty old thread haha.. but on a 05 the PCM is to the left of the battery and down on a bracket kind of behind the drivers side fan, bunch of wiring running to it... it's covered by a black plastic cover that pulls off and the PCM unsnaps and pulls up and out... Good Luck

about 8 pins on the end of the blue connector were corroded. Got some contact cleaner from radio shack and gently cleaned it with a wire brush, seems to be running fine now and the fans have turned off. I'm still getting a little smoke from the exhaust, probably because I gutted the cats yesterday, but I'm going to run some berryman's through it and see if that helps.

This could result from someone removing the connector and not ensuring the red rubber seal was in place before reinstalling the pcm connectors.
Truthfully, my 2004 did have some discolored moisture in the PCM connectors when I last looked at it. The seals were in place. I filled the voids with dielectric grease in the hopes that it will limit future issues.

Corroded PCM Pins - Blue Connector
The post from bigbass1307 is correct, but I blew past it. Didn't know what the blue connector was. Never messed with the PCM.
Here is an excellent writeup on the issue. It was perfect for me, because I also have a 2005 Suburban.
I cleaned the PCM male pins, and sprayed contact cleaner into the blue connector. Opened PCM - no water inside.
That helped, but I still had issues. In some cases, it was worse. It would stall and refuse to start. Disconnect battery, and reseat blue connector.
Pulled blue cover off today, and cleaned the rust slurry between pins. I guess it was shorting them. The bottom 8 pins are rusty looking. I think they are Nickel plated. The pins on the PCM are Gold plated.
Seems to be running fine now, but I don't like the looks of those pins.
Someone please verify replacement pins (Gold plated) are correct. I have 12084912 for 18 Gauge pins. Delphi datasheet says they are replaced by 15359002. Get them from Mouser.
