5.3 to LQ9 6.0 engine swap
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Z-71 that came with a 5.3 engine.
I had it "tuned" years ago and he charged me $150 to tune it.
I bought a 2004 LQ9 6.0 to replace the wore out 5.3 and talked to my tune guy ...... He now wants $600 to dyno tune it or $300 to put 6.0 tables in it.
He is the ONLY guy in town and I was wondering if I will definitely have to get it tuned .... it is just my old 4x4 .... will it hurt the engine to not tune it?
Has anybody ever done this before?

Yes, it must be tuned.
I have no idea why he'd charge so much just to simple swap numbers over.
Many things must be changed when swapping to a 6.0, cylinder volume, VE table, timing tables should be swapped. If everything was stock the swap would be very simple, you could still leave some tables alone that got tuned before hand but ideally having it street tuned or on a dyno would be better to dial in airflow tables and fueling.
Depending on fuel you use will determine how much timing and power you can gain from this swap too. Don't be surprised if you are very close to maxxing out the factory 24lb/hr injectors if you get it fully dyno tuned.

THANKS GUY'S .... maybe I can get it done right as my local guy wanted to overcharge me and said it would be a guessing game if I didn't spend the $600 for the dyno, which is crazy just to make my old 4x4 run right.
