NHRA rules are such that a truck does not have to have the rear down bars (out the back window or cab) for an 8.50 cert provided that there is a 25.xxx spec funny car cage in the cab.
I didn't know this when I originally had my cage done as I can guarantee you that would have been the way I would have went. I keeps the truck with the nice factory stock look from the outside and still has an 8.50 cert.
The only truck that I know of that took advantage of this rule is owned by Casey at SWG Performance out of central Texas. It is the way to go as long as you don't need cert quicker than 8.50. It's obviously going to add a significant cost to the cage fabrication, but well worth it in my mind not having the down bars out he back.
