I dipped mine with aluminum
My recommendation is to use pearls whether it be just one pearl or multiple pearls mixed to achieve a certain color.
Reason being, the aluminum is a BITCH to spray. Compared to most other colors it's thinner. When we did my truck it looked splotchy as you sprayed so naturally we went back over it...put too much on and got a few runs.
Our reasoning is that with lighter colors of RDS they have to use more thinner to suspend the pigment in the dip. We sprayed another car the very next day using pearls and it came out flawless.
Here's some of the work my friend has done.
Stormcloud Metallic Pearl and purple *** wheels:
White with white pearlizer:
Hyper Black Pearl (Looks more like a gray than a black):
Anthracite stripe (The anthracite was much easier to shoot than aluminum):
Sazuka Blue Pearl:

some pictures of anthracite look awesome, then some are really dark. like the white mustang with an anthracite stripe looks awesome...then the honda i posted almost looks like a satin black. the 1:1 mix of anthracite and aluminum that i posted is a little lighter than what i'm looking for. i would probably do a 2:1 mix of anthracite to aluminum. everything i read says anthracite lays heavy and smoothe so i think the 2:1 mix wouldnt be too bad to spray.
that Stormcloud Metallic Pearl looks awesome. what did it take to get that color?

Yep he does it on the side, Gulf Coast Dips on Facebook if you're interested at looking at more pics.
With Stormcloud he just mixes the specified amount of pearl into clear Plasti Dip. DYC typically mixes 1:1 clear and glossifier when they do pearls but it still looks great if you just use only clear.

I'd also get a base coat down before doing pearls to cut down on cost. IIRC on my truck we laid down 4 coats of gunmetal before the aluminum. We had full coverage with the gunmetal, it took about 2 gallons and so we pretty much shot the aluminum for color and more layers.
I'm going to redo my truck eventually, I'm thinking it will likely be hyper black
