Any Information systems people here? Was considering a career change but looking for input from people in the field. I can have the degree done in 2 years only problem is I'd have to take out loans(on top of my already unreasonable student loans) to finish out because I can't afford out of pocket. It's kind of a popular field in my area(maryland) with NSA and DC being so close and all.

Late reply to you but I worked in the cleared defense world mostly DIA with bits of CIA/FBI things in the DC area. BS & MS Computer Science here with a minor in MechE (didn't have time to finish the last design class). I'm in Fairfax FWIW.
You'll obviously need to have a fairly clean history. If/when getting a clearance just don't lie about drug use or run-ins with the law. They want to know everything so you don't become susceptible to black mail.
Its good work but soul sucking. I love my country and feel I've helped do my part to keep her safe. Still... sheeesh... hard work in secured computer labs. Friends often ask what you're doing and you can't say. At that YOU don't know really what you're doing as everything is compartmentalized, which can be annoying.
My wife is a PHD and a professor at George Mason. She always talks about how people discount community college. I'd suggest doing that if you're looking to get another degree and want to save money.

Good sir, any information is good information for me. Although I'm looking at getting a less technical role as a analyst to start off. I've never written code and still have a lot to learn about the industry so any insight is valuable to me. I did my first couple years at a cc hence only having 2 years left, I started class this week so lol too late now, gonna try to commit.
