Yeah I knew the 60e would be a ticking time bomb. If I did go for a Denali an 80e swap would be on the to do list. Already blown through 2 60's in my Sierra and it's not even boosted yet so I'm well aware of how much they suck lol.
Well, I guess I have till may to find the right 2500 ideally. If not I cave on a Denali and see how it goes

I pulled a 28 foot dove tail equipment trailer up a pretty steep lease road with my Escalade last winter. The trailer was relatively empty besides a couple skidsteer buckets and a generator but I'd say it was close to 7 or 8K. I left it in 1st gear and it pulled it pretty well considering the grade and how muddy it was. I wouldn't even consider pulling it down though. I have pulled the same trailer with a skidsteer on it a few miles down the road to refuel it and that was just plain scary. Id definitely look for a 2500. I know guys can be pretty brand loyal but have you considered an Excusion? You could have plenty of seating and beyond plenty of torque out of the 7.3. The 7.3 are hard to beat in terms of reliability.

I half considered an excursion for that reason but I'm really not a ford fan. I have my own shop and I've dealt with enough super duty trucks that I have zero desire to ever own one myself lol.
Calling on a 2500 I found online tomorrow. Wish me luck.

You could always swap a duramax into a Yukon. It is doable. Good luck with the 2500. I really think a 3/4 ton is the way to go if you are planning to use it as a tow truck.

Yeah, that's kinda my loose plan. Find a 2500 and in 4-5 years when it needs a motor do a dmax swap.
The more I think and the more I read I think I need to hold out for the 3/4 ton. I'd rather not be wishing I went bigger. Especially in the middle of a road trip lol

Wise Choice!!!

No ever say I sure wish I would have got a smaller truck when towing, especially on a long trip...

I wouldnt own a ford anything either between the coils, brake lines, and ball joints i have made quite a lot of money off of fords the past few years..... Only thing i will say i like about a ford is that the wiring harness either cones out with engine or gets the hell out of the way when doin a swap
