Default Stall converter for towing

Hello folks

I know that something has probably been already been covered on this, but I have a 6.0 4x4 6speed, lifted 6 inches and my mods are

Cam- 218/224
Long tubes
Volant intake
TuNE
35 in tires
4:10 gears

So I'm wondering what's a good converter to get with that set up to still be able to run Streets well but have the capability to pull my toy hauler maybe 6 times a year. Because at this point I can't even power brake my tires and get them to spend.

If it were me id do a gear swap, especially with the 4l80e. I would go no less than a 4.88 with 4.88s in my sight. I had 4.56s, 35s and regretted not going to a 4.88 every time I got in it.

2007+ have the 6L90e.

A stall might help or you have TM kicking in still. Hard to say if TM is stopping you without seeing the tune file and log.

TM? What is that? And I honestly think my local shop didn't tune it right. It was only on the dyno for 2 runs

Torque management.

If they only dyno'd it twice and did no street tuning or even steady speed tuning on a dyno, that tune is more than likely just hacked together. I see it all the time, they just make it a MAF only tune with no VVE correcting, make sure the fuel is there and just ship it. It takes hours to tune a GEN 4 V8 correctly, many tables need adjustment with a cam swap and hardly any shops take the time to do that.

This is just my opinion here but I wouldn't use him.

No doubt that people have said they had good results with their stuff but after reading several stories over time I feel that black bear doesn't know exactly what they are doing sometimes. They can't see every vehicle in person so nothing is going to be the best it can be and corners will have to be cut. Also the waiting period between having them send you tunes, have you data log, wait for them to try new changes would drive me insane.

I've owned HP Tuners software for 4-5 years now, though I'm no tuning guru I know enough about how to tune correctly and how long it really takes to dial things in. It's easy to see where shops or other people that tune take short cuts or they just flat out don't know exactly whats going on.

My vote is gears before converter - you will be way more happy with gears than the converter unloaded. And I agree - 4.88's at a minimum for 35's that's the closest ratio to pout you back to stock gearing with the larger tires. If you don't have a tune to correct for tire size, then that gear would be the closest to getting your speedo correct.
