Default Another Cam/Stall Towing ?

I have an 07 silverado classic 5.3L flex fuel truck and I have a 228R cam, Lsx Rt 102 intake, and PRC stage 2.5 heads that I was going to put on it and was wondering if it will still work good for towing my 22' camper trailer? The trailer weighs in a little over 4000 lbs. I was also wondering what stall I could run with this cam and still work to tow and good for normal driving? I am also going to put a bigger cooler on it too. Thanks for your help!

Yikes, I feel like a 5.3L with a 228r would be awful to tow with period. However, Circle D has a 278mm 3200 stall that is rated to tow up to 6000lbs. It should work nicely.

What makes you think it would be awful to tow with? I don't know much about all this, but I bought this cam before I bought the camper… I was planning on this just being a street/strip truck but plans have changed and I need more power to tow this trailer… Just trying to save money but if I need to change the cam I will, just don't know what I need and if all the parts I have will help or hurt

Get you a cam with the duration under 220. You won't need a stall and you will keep that low end torque for towing.

The 228 in a 5.3 will make most of its power above 4000 rpm and will peak around 6500. Really it's not ideal in a 5.3 of any kind. I would go smaller. If you are okay with a small stall then a 220/224 would be good. If you want a stock stall then 212/218 is hard to beat.

I towed 10klbs in the summer every weekend with a yank truck thruster 3k. I loved that convertor... My truck was lifted on 35s, 4x4,5.3, 216/220 cam FBO and 4.56 gears.. IMO the yank truck thruster 3k performed really well.
