It all depends on where you are. Some areas just look for the minimum (horn turn signal brake lights etc.) some will put a sniffer in your exhaust and others will just hook up to the OBD II port

I had to think twice about your comment, but I guess some place the sniffer test has to be still being performed somewhere in Texas. Currently, cars 1990 and older with ODB 1 and 1.5 systems should be aged out of the system.

All the businesses I have ever had emissions testing has discontinued doing the sniffer / roller test, and I made an (incorrect) assumption that the sniffer test should be gone. That was wrong because I hadn't done the math.

Roughly in another 5 years, and all pre-ODB II vehicles should be past requiring any emissions testing, at least in Texas, and most states that perform an emissions test. You are on your own if you move to California.

Okay cool. Thanks guys. I should be running e85 by the time I get it inspected, so that should help if for some reason they do use the sniffer. I'll just slip them a little extra $$ if need be lol.

Why would a MAF matter? I don't know of anything in the law stating you need a MAF to pass emissions.

To pass emissions you must not have any codes. To go into SD you have to fail the maf which throws a code. P0102 i believe.

Failing the MAF does throw a DTC but it doesn't show up on their system, probably because it doesn't set off the MIL.

The code is stored on the PCM, disabling the MIL just makes the light on the instrument panel not show up, the code is still there when plug into it.
