Never done an 01 but the bulb can be replaced in later models. Need a soldering iron and some bulbs from radio shack.
I replaced almost all my incandescent bulbs with LEDs, the temp sliders I soldered in new incandescent bulbs.
The bulbs at radioshack bulbs look like this:

I've replaced a few in my 99 with the bulbs from Radio Shack, as mentioned, you just need to desolder the burnt bulbs and solder the new ones into the circuit board. I actually have one in my recirc button that goes out, and I give it a tap and it comes back on. (Off topic, but the bad news is, the day that I went to Radio Shack to pick up the bulbs, someone hit my truck in the parking lot and tweaked my L/R bed quarter and bumper...so much for a cheap repair )
