Default Speed Engineering

Ordered a set of their "new batch" 1-3/4 headers and y pipe.

Headers fit pretty good, they also look great and feel sturdy. But the Y pipe nails my front driveshaft. There is physically no way this y pipe would ever fit on my truck without extensive modification...

Not sure if the "new batch" headers are shaped different thus misplacing the Y.... or if I just got a defective Y.

Regardless I am not impressed with the Y pipe. Which I'm ashamed to say because I really supported SE, and thought they came more recomended than any other company in the price range... especially being a forum sponsor.

Also they seem to have deleted their 40+ page sponsor thread on here....

Y pipe pressed hard against my DS... and this is them only slid on the headers halfway, physically can't get them on the headers all the way...

Well speed engineering got back to me. Told me to replace my motor mounts. Which seems to be the only thing they ever say when people complain about fitment.

It's comical considering that blown motor mounts prolly would have helped my situation because the motor would have sat lower and so would have the Y.

So here's the solution. They y pipe comes with two adapters. one for 99-06 trucks. and then one for 07+. I combined the two sections and after some cutting and welding it went together great.

Looks better now. Yea its pretty bogus, but honestly thats what you get for the money. What sucks is the customer service. I wouldnt put them on blast too bad... but everyone needs to know the truth.

i recently replaced the trans mount in my 99 and my passenger side cat pipe is hitting my floorboard now.... Before the mount i had about 1/4-3/8 inch clearance between the pipe and floorboard.... Still havent gotten my new motor mounts which i know are separated or my headers in, seems the headers fit well for most part but at this point the y pipes are starting to be an issue....but i didnt realize how collapsed and worn my transmount was until i replaced it....

GM1697:Thank you for your business. As explained in our PM back to you we did not delete our 2 year old thread because of anything you or someone else might have posted recently. We had plenty of good and bad post in there to defend making a rash decision like that. We were simply tired of answering the same questions over and over again every few pages. We still have our 55 page true dual thread going in here, and consistently talk with customers throughout the week.

1999-2006 MotorMounts: This has been explained half a dozen times on here, with pictures etc from customers to prove it. When your motor torques it pulls up on your drivers side, and pushes down on the passenger side. This causes the passenger side mount to collapse quicker than the drivers side, rocking the engine to the right. This pushes our passenger side header close the frame rail, and rotates the Y Pipe right into the driveline at the same time. We have revised our passenger side header multiple times to help with the warn out mount situation, but we are running out of room to push them in unfortunately. They are already 1/4" from touching the 4L60E trans.

Y Pipe: I am glad to hear you were able to make the Y Pipe work with your setup. Regardless of our beliefs on the situation. We do not like to see customers have issues with our products. One of our next items on the list to change is the 99-06 Y Pipe. We have a 2001 shop truck we are putting a 4L80E in, and plan on making our Y Pipe fit those as well. The drop for the larger trans should also give added clearance for the 4wd guys as well. ETA on those is probably 8 months out.

Let's just agree to disagree here on the motor mounts thing.

I completely understand that if they are collapse the headers will knock the frame.
But in my eyes collapse motor mounts would only help lower the y pipe under the driveline. As you can see in my very first picture in this thread, the header exit is damn near level with my driveshaft.

I hope you continue to produce products for members, although you will end up answering the same questions hundreds of times, so deleting your thread seems illogical and a step backwards in the form of customer service.

So Sean deleted that 50 some page Speed Engineering Headers thread?! I've been searching for it for a week! I enjoyed reading feedback, comments and updates with the O2 bung, new 1-7/8 headers etc. why. Why.

I (and I'm sure many other forum members) used the thread! I was especially interested in the update to the O2 bung fix and If it weren't for some unforseen expenses I wouldnt have order a set already a set, but now the thread is gone and finding updates is impossible now. Yes i see the true dual exhaust thread, but I have already put money into the exhaust system and won't need a true dual set up (even though that would have be bad ***) so there's no real need for me to be engaged in that thread. I want to know about the headers!

I'm curious to know how many sales Speed Engineering got with that thread open that had so many forum members engaged.

If you have any questions your more than welcome to email, pm, or give us a call. Nothing has changed. I am not really sure what you are referencing about an O2 bung fix. We dont have any changes in production. All O2 bungs were adjusted correctly last year, and the last one earlier this year.
