Default Props to Livernois!

Quick back story and disclaimer. I am not going to trash a sponsor so I won't mention a name. But if the head guru of this company would like to chime in I would think he knows who he is.

I called a Very well known name around here. They have always answered my questions quickly and the few things I have bought from them were top notch. But I was severely let down. I was put through to the cylinder head guy for my issue and he had zero answers.

I am trying to lower the compression on my 408 with 317 heads. First off I know for a fact that with a dremel and some time I could take at least a small amount out of the combustion chamber of a head. So I asked aside from a thicker gasket if they could open the chamber up with CNC or any other fashion. His answer was "we do not have the ability to open up the chamber." I also asked if there we other options and he said no.

Finally we get to the thank the heavens for Livernois! I called and talked to Jason, apparently their cylinder head guru. Not only did he tell me the can typically take 1.5-2 cc out of my combustion chamber he also gave me a slue of other solutions. Such as dished valves, having the valves sunk into the head a little bit, re-profiling the piston and a few other solutions.

I quickly learned from this situation that if you have head work Livernois is the way to go! Jason is the man! Thanks again for your time and for the great work you guys do.

Not sure you are being smart or honest. We all know this, This isn't an easy option or cheap. The whole call was to find out the thickest gasket I could use since that is the easiest and cheapest aside from cleaning/opening the chamber by hand. The .060 gasket gets it down to about 12.2:1 so another few tenths of a compression and it is no longer on the edge of pump gas and it becomes much safer on pump gas.

Not bieng smart just stating the obvious .
I'd be afraid to mess with the combustion chamber with just a Dremel tool , would rather have them CNCed but that can get pricey .

I think changing your pistons would be best option IMO.

If you drill divots in the top of the pistons it will lower the CR also. If you use a Dremel then it will be Inconsistant from one cyl to another. Just drill the holes the same depth and diameter so the material removed will be equal.

Like 03 said will work, just need to put a stop on the bit. The gaskets are the easiest way. It would prob be cheaper to pull the pistons off the rods and have a small amount milled from the tops. All that other stuff is going to cost a hefty amount.

You forgot to mention this method also promotes flame travel as well as creates additional turbulence as the mixture flows over the dimples thus creating a more violent explosion within the cylinder. It's good for a few extra HP

If you mess up and drill too deep then just use some weld to fill it back in.

If you go really big on the cam it will lower your CR also, 360 degree should do it.
