STS is not self contained, is any turbo? STS system has an oil pump actually with an alarm if it stops feeding oil to the turbo.
The STS has an oil pump to return the oil from the turbo to the oil fill cap on the passenger valve cover. It does have an alarm if the oil is backing up behind it and not being returned fast enough. It does not supply oil to the turbo. That is done by engine oil pressure through a braided line from the oil filter housing to the turbo center housing inlet. Just for what its worth...
For the money, you might consider dropping a 6.0 in there, you can pick those up for under $1,000. Throw a cam in there and you are good to go. You will spend over $2,000 for any sort of forced induction.
My thoughts exactly. The 4.3l with a pretty nice turbo kit would still be behind on HP and TQ in comparison with a N/A mild 6.0l. You should be able to pick up a 5.3l with a tranny for under a grand and be wrapped up for under $1500. Then...turbo down the road when the HP bug rears it's ugly head...

thanks guys. im just stuck right now with not having mney and trying to get an idea of what i want to do. theres a few V8 s10s around my area but none of them with the GEN III block. If I do the swap I want it to still be fuel injected. itll be easier to tune when I go forced inducted with it. so any ideas on what I can use for fuel injection?
yeah, unless he's modified it, that motor is TBI. don't worry OP, if you go to a six liter or 5.3, you'll be stepping up in the world of fuel injection. any III gen and up has a multi port fuel injection system.
If you stay with the 4.3 i'd try to steal a top end kit off of a newer v6 that has the newer fuel injection system. If you get a 6.0 or 5.3, just swap the injectors for something larger, depending on what kind of boost you're talking about. to get started i'd look at the trick flow 48#s

96 is the first year they came out with the poppet crap design. retarded fuel injection. obviously i cant run that on a 5.3 or a 6.0 thats why i asked what injection system should i use? should i get a stand alone system or use the factory system for the 5.3 or 6.0?
the factory system works fine, but you may want to look at a high flow pump. and if you're going FI, look into some bigger injectors
here's something i've found useful: http://rceng.com/technical.aspx?User...eZD0e93484XD72

find a factory pull out from a junk yard with wire harness and all. you need a non drive by wire throttlebody version. the headers and everything you need for the gen III s-10 are easy to find online. the factory marine injectors will take you a long way if you want something that is easy to install.
i dont think i can use my factory harness for a 5.3 or 6.0 swap. thats my main conern. should i use the harness that goes with the other motor? Im going to use a walbro 255 pump most likely. that way i dont starve out the system.
