Default Who's powdercoated their wheels?

After over a year of searching I finally found a set of the wheels I've been looking for. I had to drive 300 miles to go get them today.

These may not seem all that special, but they are to me. I used to have them on an older Silverado I had and I've been searching for them ever since I bought this truck.

I like how they look now, being all aluminum and I'm not a fan of chrome. (I currently have chrome wheels.) That being said, I've got a black truck this time and I want it all blacked out.

I've never powdercoated anything. I don't think I want gloss black wheels. I'm thinking semi-gloss or satin. I googled it, and some folks apparently did a flat black with a gloss clear coat. I didn't even know you could do that with powder coat.

I haven't called around yet and talked to any powdercoaters. What should I ask the powdercoater?

What are your guy's thoughts on semi-gloss vs satin vs gloss vs flat with clear?

Any pics of your wheels and what powder you went with? Does anyone know if we can get black lug nuts?

Thanks!

We have semi wheels powder coated all the time. They go from hell to 7-10 out of 10 every time.

A guy I work with had the wheels for his "74 porsce 914 powder coated. They were very rough and for around $350 he got them back gray and they look awesome.

The only questions I would ask the powder coater is to see his past work to confirm it looks good. Powder coating is only a 3 step proces if I am correct so if they screw it up they are talented!

IMHO, those wheels would look good on your truck, as is. I think powder-coating them would be a mistake. Before you do something permanent, I'd consider using Plasti Dip on the wheels to make sure you are going to like it.

My Vette wheels have been powdercoated for over 10 years with no issues. Just make sure they are a quality shop and not some dude doing it out of his backyard.

I agree with the plastidip comment. Give that a try first to make sure you like it.

not to hijack the thread, but can a wheel be 2 toned? like the spokes black and the lip silver?

First off, here's a pic of my truck a year ago the day I bought it.

Here are a few pics of my old 2WD Silverado. The plan is to slightly lower my black one so it looks 2WD, while changing it over to AWD.

Only thing is, I think these new ones are polished and my other ones weren't. Hmm...

Powder coat is just like paint. You can put as many colors as you want.
