Default 2016: Calling all 285/50/18 or 255/55/18 guys

How are the 285/50/18 up front? I need to run the same size tire front and rear since I'm 4wd. Would love to hear feedback and pics on 285/50/18 on 8" or 8.5" wheels.

I'm 2WD but was running 255/55R18 on the front. (305/45R18 in back)

No rubbing with a 3/6 drop.

Probably going back to that setup.

I was also running a 255/55/18 up front with 305/45/18 in the rear. The 255/55 fits perfect on a 8" wheel and ~3" drop on a GMT800. I am in the process of lowering mine and extra inch up front and went with a 265/50 for a slightly wider and shorter tire. It's about as wide as I would go on a 8" wheel and 28" tire height. Many moons ago, I ran a 285/50/18 on an 8.5" wheel with a 2/4 drop and they looked and fit great. I dug up an old pic for you...

Thanks for the pic! Truck looks real tough. My Centerlines are 18x8.5 (9" from the edge of the lip to other edge). My truck is 4wd and isn't lowered as much as yours, so I can't do a 28" or even 29" tall tire. Simply too short. I'm considering:
265/60/18
265/65/18
275/60/18
285/55/18

I don't have the 285/50R18 up front, but do in the rear, The front is 255/55R18.

Well you are in luck... I've also run 275/60/18 on the truck. First set of tires I had on those wheels with the truck at stock height up front and 2" shackles in the rear.

You've had some tires on that thing! Is that truck original owner? Those headlights look clean enough to eat off of. My Centerline Galaxies are an 18x8.5 wheel, and measure 9" lip to lip. Choosing tires is tough! The advantage of a 31" or 31.5" tire is that they fill the wheel well up more and the ride is a bit better. Whereas, a 30" or 30.5" tire will shorten my final drive a smidge and lower the truck even more. Ultimately, I need to choose a tire that doesn't bulge excessively, and is a commonly available size. There isn't much available in 285/55/18. I wish tire shops had mock-up sets laying around... A little more or less sidewall can make the difference between a truck popping and another run of the mill truck with rims. My wheels come back from repair/ polishing later this week so I've got a couple days to decide. Here is the truck with bald down to the cords 285/60/18 that the wheels came with (couldn't mount the rears as one of the tires didn't hold air):

I photoshopped 2 more Galaxies on top of my stock 31.5" 265/70/17's:

Yes, I am the original owner. I bought the truck brand new back in 2000. It has been thru quite a few transformations since then.

Here it is with the 275/60/18 right after the 2/4 drop. The front tires did rub over bumps/dips when turned.

Wicked! I really like the 275/60/18 on all 4's. What size tire did you run with the Billet Specialties?
