Shelby Dakota

Shelby Dak
The Shelby Dak has to be viewed in the context of the time. In 1989, it was the fastest truck available of the showroom floor. No, it was not that quick in real terms, but it was a capable performer for its time. There was supposed to be a 1990 Shelby Dakota, but Iacocca retire and new Chrysler management wanted to charge Shelby full price for Dakotas. The 1990 was set to have the 360
When I got my Shelby, it would run a 16.3 in the quarter, bone stock with more than 100,000 miles. I with only headers and the TBI bolted to an Edelbrock Performer manifold ad it will run the 1/4 in the high 15s. If I could get the rear tires to hook up, it would easily run into the mod, if not low 15s. Not bad for TBI 318 with all emissions equipment operational.
First Gen short nosed trucks make the best muscle trucks, I general. They are the lightest of all Dams and requires the use of an electric fan. Any small block, LA or Magnum, is a straight drop-in.
Also, a stroked 318 can be run on a 360 TBI with some success. GM TBI can be used and run with a mega squirt. Magnum engines can be used by simply installing the electronics.
