Yeeeuup...another turbo build
The truck...bought new in '04 and i bagged it. Thought about doing a static drop and supercharger but the performance market really hadn't developed much back then...Drove it for two years, eventually lost interest in it so it got garaged. Did some body work here and there over the years, got that finished off and everything in primer last summer and did a 5 lug conversion. As it sits now...
I always wanted to build a motor for it but after the last few months of lurking around here turbo seemed the way to go. Plan was to piece together a used setup from others as they upgrade. Picked up a used precision 74/75 turbo and i started looking for a 4l80e to rebuild, no sense in trashing a good 4l60e....Then I got impatient ordered a stage 3 kit from Trick, less turbo. And then a jakes stage 2 4l80e popped up and craigslist, fresh build supposedly never run with a brand new 4k stall yank converter, for $1700.
Along with some other parts for the swap
I need to figure out what to do with the converter, restall or resell?
Other than that I'm in process of ordering 'the' triple 12 cam and some valve springs...
Fuel system is next up on the to do list, looking for a deal on injectors and fuel pump.

It's about time for an update...
80e transmission deal was a bit of a scam. Pulled the pan on what was supposed to be a fresh never run rebuild, no filter and some gritty fluid residue. Somebody has been inside it, there are transgo parts and new gaskets. I'm thinking at best it's a junkyard tranny with a shift kit. Converter was not a yank. Some no name ****. I just looked at everything real quick when I picked it up. Showed no signs of ever being used. I was able to sell coverter cheap to somebody that was willing to take a chance on it.
All hosed off ready to start rippin' and tearin'
I try to avoid harbor freight. I was hoping to find a used engine hoist on Craigslist but no luck. Ended up welding this up. I had to slot out the holes for the legs too.
Some rust on the crank. #7 & 8 cylinders have a couple of stains on them as well where it looked like there was some rust at one time. I knew I should have changed the oil once or twice in last 9 years it sat.
A little turd polishing.
New rings gapped at .024 top, .026 second. I planned on reusing stock rings but the cheap ring filer was not friendly to the moly coating on the top rings, even after dressing the wheel. Ended up filing those with a hand file. FWIW stock rings were at .016 top and .025 second when I pulled it apart.
I should be able to start putting it back together soon. I've got just about everything I need except fuel pump, injectors and tranny cooler and the small things that go along with it. I'm planning on running new AN lines for that stuff.
Whats the best place for the oil return line from turbo? I marked this area before I pulled the motor.
