Default Project "Featherweight" LS swap S10

Just started my newest project. A small tire "streetable" ls powered s10. Plan is swap my old 5.3 from my 01 silverado into it backed with a powerglide. direct port nitrous. 10 pt cage and alluminum dash. stock style suspention with a 28x10.5 slick under it.

The motor already has a 220/220 .581/.581 112lsa cam, comp valve springs and pushrods. 42lb injectors and rest is stock. i have a set of 799 heads i may mill and have ported to swap on and also a tbss 90mm intake. or may just leave it alone and go to a holley mid rise down the road.

the build will be slow as i work 28 days and only home for 14. i am stacking up parts slowly and then should come together quickly. i have already pulled the old 350/350 combo out and stripped the firewall and dash out. i plan on making it light as possible so i will be cutting the engine crossmember and putting tube in place, as well as maybe the front frame horns. tubular arms, fiberglass fenders and hood and maybe building own core support.
here is a quick list of what some parts i plan to use

Engine:
ebay engine plates
ebay foward turbo style headers and build my own fender exits
carshop solid 2.8 style mounts
modify harness for stand alone
Aeromotive A1000 pump and regulator
ebay fuel rails
8 gallon fuel cell
if i do headswap ill need .040 cometic gaskets, ebay head studs, ls7lifters with ls2 trays and new pushrods
if i swap to tbss intake ill need 90mm cable throttle body

Trans:
looking for powerglide to have buiit by local guy or crate one unsure of from who though
nitrous converter 4000ish stall
trans brake an rmvb
b&m or tci shifter

Safety:
10pt cage from brokedick racing
kirkey alum seats
5 point harnesses
alum dash with autometer gages or heads up composite dash
lightweight column

Front suspention:
speedway 8.5'' uppers
trz lowers
moroso trick springs
qa1 shocks
trz rack an pinion
race brakes unsure of what brand yet

Rear suspention:
8.8 swap
calvert split mono
caltracs
qa1 shocks

Nitrous system:
Induction solutions direct port
1 gallon stand alone cell
holley low pressure pump and regulator
progressive controller unknown on what one yet

Body:
glass front fenders
glass 4'' lift off cowl
glass bumper an roll pan
lexan windows
stripped doors with alum door panels
unsure on what i want to do with the bed yet. (gut floor or leave alone)?
silver/grey color paint job
new lights all around

Wheels/tires:
Dark Stars
15x10 rear with hoosier 28x10.5 slick
15x3.75 front with hoosier 27x4.5

im sure things will change over time but thats the base plan......now on to some pics!

Aeromotive A1000 pump i got for a killer deal

thats all for now, after new years the cage will ordered and ill be working on that and a dash setup.
any opinions or suggestions are welcome. im new to the s10 world. always had fast trucks but never a dedicated racer. my 01 ext cab silverado went 12.7s on a 275 radial an i daily drove it. my current duramax i built is a low 12 high 11 truck i daily drive. heres a pic of it....

Looks to be a good start. From the title I instantly thought featherweight frame from auto weld.

Cool project! I look forward to seeing your progress on it.

I know you already have it and want to keep things economical, but I would rethink your cam choice. With the turbo forward headers (basically unequal length shorties) and nitrous you are going to want a cam that will rev higher with a bit of exhaust bias.

yes the cam will be changed after its up an running. and also ill be looking for a 6.0 block to build a 370 or 408 that will go in after i pop the 5.3. i may just go ahead and swap the cam regardless to something that would work in the new motor, 244/248 .612/.615 112+2 is one i have in mind. pretty healthy for the 5.3 but should be nice for the 6.0 and ported/milled 799s.

That's an extremely big cam for a 5.3.

Not much of an update, its been storming down here and i havnt cleaned a spot up in the shop yet to get it inside. but i did order some engine plates and the car shop solid mounts. should be here next week......but i leave the 29th back offshore so no updates besides parts ordering will take place until middle of january when i get back.

i may pick up a powerglide this weekend that ill have my local builder work his magic on. and then when i get home ill work on getting the motor and trans set in and mounted up and build a trans crossmember and drive shaft hoop. also i should be able to get my cage kit ordered and work on that as well.

cleaning out a spot in the shop an will be tearing into it. Ordering my cage kit an gona chop the front frame off and begin to fab that up...if anyone has pics of how theirs is setup that would be awsome. i picked up some 1 5/8ths DOM but thinking maybe stepping down to 1 1/2 stuff. Also got a mid plate on the way.

Slowly making some progress, designing it as i go but so far its coming together kinda how i pictured it. Next ill be adding the grill mounts, headlight buckets, more bracing to hold overflow tank and maybe the stand alone fuel cell. Also started welding holes up on the firewall.
