Default 2006 ECSSB Silverado Project

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time now, but mostly just read and rarely post. I figured I would copy paste my latest build from another forum onto here since it has now taken a turn into the performance side of things

I'll start with the past:

Old truck - low and slow, but very nice truck

Sold that truck to buy the car I always wanted - 2006 Evo IX SE. Bought it completely stock and built it over about a year and a half into this

That was a fun car, but I got tired of having a toy in the garage I never drove, so I caught the diesel bug and bought a 2006 LBZ stock, and modified it over a couple of years

But it was expensive to make a diesel fast, so I got tired of it. I decided to get back into gas trucks, and the super short bed extended cab caught my eye. They only made them in 06/07c and I started the search. Eventually found this one that was pretty beat up for a decent price at a dealer. I think I spent $9k with 140k miles

I tried to be responsible and just do a slight 3" front lift, some 33's on stock wheels and have a nice daily driver, but we all know how that goes.

So I started with the 3" 2wd lift spindles

Did a few cosmetic mods and started my HID retrofit with mini h1s

Started with just an audio install with my duramax parts, but we all know how that goes... (story of my life)

Bought some engine covers from a member on here that I will paint the color of the truck

At this point driving around on 33's with 3.23 gears was getting old, so I looked into having 4.10s put in. I called around and the Austin area is ridiculous for pricing. I was quoted around $1200-$1400 with a locker I didn't want and gears I didn't want. So I got on craigslist and bought an axle to do myself

Name: IMAG1658_zpslhsohnza.jpg
Views: 353
Size: 147.8 KB

And if you haven't figured out by now, that small project of adding 4.10s and a trutrac turned into this (still ongoing right now) - It's got Yukon 4.11s, trutrac, all new seals and bearings, TA girdle cover, Yukon axles, extended studs, 1350 yoke and all new brakes

Since I was in the mood to clean stuff up, I decided it was time to replace balljoints. I didn't want to do it on the truck, so I bought UCAs and LCAs from a junkyard to do on the side

Axle is somewhat done, just need new parking brake cables so I can install the brakes. I also need to double check axles and brake shoes for round

Bought a set of OEM chrome 20s to declad and plan was to widen them with a 295 tire

But for now, I took the easy way out and bought these on craigslist to run with 275/45/20. Once the truck is lowered I can then measure to see what size tire I can run in the rear

Started measuring for coilovers

This would be my upper balljoint angle at ride height, so when I installed the upper balljoints, I flipped them

Since then, I've ordered everything for the front coilovers, already have the rest of the drop parts to make it like a 2wd 4/6 drop including c-notch and helper bags.

Last week I ordered a stage 3 turbo kit from Trick Performance and I'm anxiously awaiting that step

Still need to figure out my transmission setup. Originally I was going to get a Jakes 4L80E, but I'm wondering if I should just source a craigslist 80E and run that. As you guys can tell, I like to overdo things, but I try to wrangle that back in to help the wallet. Jakes is having a tax sale so I have until April to decide.

That's it for now, I'll keep this build thread updated as I go. This was a cut and dry version of the build that has taken 20 pages on other forums, but I cut out all the bullshit and back and forth

It's definitely taken another direction from my original post where it was a simple DD so I could save money and be responsible

Clean build! What did you use on the back wall of the cabin to mount the amps onto?

Nice truck! Curious, what made you go from lifted to lowered?

Interesting one with the midget bid and torsion bar front suspension 2wd

I used loctite glue from home depot that bonds anything together and propped up a piece of 3/4" particle board overnight. Then just covered the back wall with black carpet from auto zone

I've always been a fan of lowered trucks, and I think lowered trucks just look 10x better than lifted
