1legs 1993 RCSB build thread
HI my name is Jerry and this will be my build thread for my 1993 Chevy 4wd.
The plan is to build it into a street-strip truck that will see a lot of bracket racing. I will be adding more info and pictures this weekend as I began the build.
The story:
My Dad bought the truck used in 1995 or 1996 in Ely, Nevada where he lived. put over 200000 miles on it drivng from Ely to railroad valley(40 miles one way) where he worked. It also saw a lot of dirt roads and 2 track off-roading. my Dad loved this truck but do to health reasons didn't take care of it the last few years. The truck still had the original sparkplug wires on it and the plug looked like it too. I know he changed the engine oil pretty regularly but the tranny was never done.
So Dad died on Feb 11 2011, and long story short it mine now. My wife and i drove out to Ely (600 miles) and picked the truck up. I drove it all the way home, she ran great(except no AC) and got 25+mpg.
The plan:
Get it home and legal in california. DONEChange Tranny filter and fluid, Done (had to flush it twice)
Change Cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Done (All AC delco parts)
Rip out carpet and get seat redone (cat pissed all over seat and carpet). DONE
New exhaust system with hi flow cat, Done
Fix driver door hinges.
Clean, CLEan, CLEAn, CLEAN! working on itDrive, Drive, Drive.
Bracket race it!
The dream: 13.50 on slicks no power adders just motor in the 1/4 mile.
LQ9/4L80 swap (i want an easy 400HP at axles)
4wd to AWD conversion (if this turn out to be to much work i might make it 2wd)
Disk brake 12bolt rear
3/4 drop
17 inch wheels 245s front 315 rear
Rear sway bar with cal-trac bars.
British racing green paint with custom tan interior.

Is the dream in any order? If the 13.5 is before the lQ9 swap you have a long road ahead. I am guessing the 13.5 is after the swap and it shouldn't be too hard.
I would say just go 2wd unless the AWD is a huge dream of your's. It is a bunch of weight to slow you down and not needed for traction at the strip.
I love all the other plans and sounds like money and time are the only things between you and a killer truck!

I really don't need 4wd, i allready have a 1989 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban, that is now planned for a 454 swap to become a tow rig. I was thinking AWD will make this thing a real street sleeper. and get great traction with out needing to run slicks. But i might just end up going 2wd with a 4l80, and save me some money. nothing is set in stone at this point.
Thanks.
