Didn't read all replies, so forgive me if I repeat anything.
Running out of fuel on an older vehicle is actually not a good thing for a few different parts. It's hard on the fuel pump, causes the build up of dirt to get lodged in to the filter, causes air in the lines etc. On a new(er) vehicle it's not so bad because there isn't as much dirt and then parts are working better.
About a week ago, was in a similar situation. What is it with women and them getting gas at the last second? Every friend I have tells Kentucky wife does the same thing. I always tell my wife, what if we have an emergency and have to stop and get gas because we can't make it to a hospital or evacuate the town?

i dont see the problem. its just running out of fuel. how would dirt get lodged into it? on the older psd it has a mechanical fp ran off the cam. it may have been a uvch(under valve cover harness) came loose. i can possibly see a FPR but what actuator?
