My brother owns a 2001 ECLB 7.3 4x4 with a 6-pack on-the-fly tuner, stacked with a superchips tuner, 4" full straight pipe (off of a wrecked 6.0L, even the DP with a little modification), CAI, 8" of lift, anywhere from 35-39" tires, all since he bought it after it was retired as a fleet truck from a power line company. I cant remember what it had for km's when he bought it but its close to 600km now and it hasnt had the easiest life...entered in the occasional mud bogs, pulls an 11,000lb skid steer/trailer and honestly you cant seem to kill the engine, i know it was ran low on oil once too. Changed the tranny twice but the motor has never skipped a beat. I'd never be scared to buy a 7.3.......plus, as long as you keep up on glow plugs, oil changes, and batteries-they actually start pretty awesome in the cold.

Hey guys I'm new to this form but I have a profile on Oilburners.net but anyway I have a 1989 f250 rclb with a 7.3 idi 4x4 and it's got 106,000 miles and I got a 2001 f350 CCLB 4x4 7.3 Powerstroke and it 240,000 miles and it's not close to being worn out yet I mean it needs a set of injectors but they got a 1/4 million miles on them give them a break right? Lol and if you go on YouTube you can look up the channel Powerstrokehelp he has a '99 PSD I believe and he calls it spot the shop truck and this truck blowed up at like 840,000 miles and that's running the **** outta it with bigg injectors and tune with bigg turbo and propane injection with nitrous every now again lol when it blowed up it broke a connecting rod. Beerings looked like they had 100,000 miles on them lol.

Powerstrokehelp guy is an idiot. I honestly wouldnt pay much attention to most of the stuff he post. He's also not very liked on any powestroke Forum that I frequent.

I don't have much too add here other than, if you get your 6.0 studded and deleted, make sure the head are inspected for flatness. I had my truck studded and deleted a few months back and it was fine pushing around 400-450rwhp mark (exhaust and tune) with no issues for a few months. It wasnt until I I upped the power (Turbo, fuel, exhaust, and tune) and made 670rwhp that it started puking coolant again and after checking a few things, found the gaskets are shot again. This shouldn't have happened and my guess is that the heads are warped (not common) and cracked (most common with 6.0 heads)

I actually thought my 6.0 was a much better motor than my 6.4, but the 6.0 was stock power levels and the 6.4 is modded to the moon so its not a fair comparison.

I had a 6.0 with 650,000km on it when I got rid if it. The only reason I got rid if it was because the tranny started going and I didn't want to put a tranny in a truck with that kind of mileage. I sold the truck to my mechanic and he pulled and used the engine in another truck and the motors got well over 800,000 on it now.

I think my good luck with that truck was due to all the reliability mods with no power upgrades.
I had it studded, black onyx gaskets, upgraded HPOP, upgraded oil cooler, egr delete. When I bought the truck at 380,000km it already had new injectors so I never did them.

I wish my 6.4 was half as reliable - studded, updated up pipes, tow power turbos, chromoly pushrods, 110hp injectors, ceramic coated pistons, upgraded valve springs, Straight pipe, H&s mini max, s&b Intake, air dog 2. I'm sure there is lots more but i want to forget what i've spent on that truck as I'm on my third motor since I've owned it, lol.

We have 2 6.0's in my family.. My dad's 07 F350 has never been deleted, or studded, never had head gasket issues or coolant loss. We have owned it since 20k miles.
Biggest issue his truck has had was 2 injectors, and the dummy plug o-ring tore on one of them. So we put new dummy plugs and standpipes in it with the updated teflon seals.

My 06 F350 I never even gave a chance to **** up.. I bought it with 48k on it, and I fully bullet proofed it at 65k. I was starting to get a little coolant loss, however mine was coming from the degas bottle and cap, when I pulled the heads off there was no signs of gasket or head bolt failure, and the heads were straight as can be..

That said, if you were in the market for a 6 liter I would get 05 and up, preferably 06 and 07. If not, don't be afraid of one of the higher mileage 05's that you can pick up for in the mid teen's, but I would be ready to put 5k into it..
Injectors are almost mandatory at around 120k miles, usually they start falling off one at a time.

The 5R110 trans is by far the strongest out of all the diesel transmissions, the only failure they typically see is a little shitty trans temp sensor. This is especially true when you start modifying them, my truck runs the hottest tune all the time and never has an issue.
My friend with similarly modded 06 D-max, if he beats on his too much it will limp the trans.

I love the Fords, I am going to pick up another one in the spring as a little project truck for the shop.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
