Default 290,xxx miles on stock 05- 6.0 died again

well this thing has had injectors over the summer, egr cooler fixed, and has been a good runner since then but progressively has been getting worse fuel mileage.

The he trip we just took north is about 350 miles towing a enclosed 4 place snowmobile trailer. On our way back the truck started shaking under a load so it would down shift and most hesitation/mis would go away till be upshifted. So we pulled over at next exit to add 4 gal of kerosene and some diesel kleen (white bottle) and another 6 gal of diesel. Nothing made it better.

Drove about 100 miles just trying to get closer to home. The truck died- we could prime the system and it would fire only for a few minutes then die out. So we thought fuel filters - changed those out and still no luck if anything I think it got worse

what at might be the culprit?

Your symptoms seem like mine did with one of my wreckers. It wore a lobe off the cam and dropped a lifter.

I may be talking out of my *** since I'm not familiar with light duty diesels, but isn't the powerstroke fuel pump driven off the cam, and if that cam lobe is wiped, that would explain why it dies or died in the case of that wrecker?

Yes powerstroke

about a month ago it did weird stuff like this and it snapped out of it in about a hr of sitting

Im a gasser trying to understand this truck of my father in laws btw

so talking to him last night after I posted this he looked in his log book his fuel filters last change was 39,xxx miles ago. Would this wear out the injectors again? Improper flow to lube them? Or take out the pumps before? He's done a high pressure oil pump already a few years back.

The cam lobes are the known for wearing out? Also reading these trucks like there maintenance - his oil change is due seeing he is at 7000 miles

I've been told twice to check cam position sensor today..... I thought that was more of a 7.3 liter problem?

Cam and crank sensors affect all engines. Plug a code reader into it to try and get some faults.

Also, try not to run kerosene through it, same with too much additive. it thins out the fuel and causes it to loose lubricity. If you are in a situation that calls for 911 or other additives, ALWAYS go by the bottle recommendations. using to much can cause adverse running conditions and, over time(dependent on how much you continue to use affects the time), can lead to fuel system failure.

I wanna say the lift pump is electrical on the 6.0's. best to double check with your local dealer.

That's literally the best advice I can give at the moment. Chances are, if it died in route, it threw a code. This will give you an idea of where to start. everything else is just using the parts cannon and hoping for the best.

So if anyone looks this up, it was #8 injector that would got hot and cracked and allow the compression stroke to press back into the fueling system and starve the one side of the motor dry of fuel which in turn worn out 2 other injectors

also doing the blue spring mod made a nice difference on fuel pressures
