The "iron LS2" is pretty popular combo, basically a 6.0 truck engine with some shaved and ported 317s or 243 heads at around 10:1 compression with a decent size cam (something in the 220-230 range) and a 2600-3000stall. Trans shift kit will also be a good idea.
The LS engines in general get much better mileage and don't have as many annoying issues as the older small blocks.

Apologies, I'm not trying to be annoying. I just don't yet understand what I'm looking at

By stall I meant torque converter stall rating. Not engine specifically, but a higher rated torque converter gets you in the powerband much faster and can significantly increase low speed acceleration. Even a looser stall on a stock engine makes it faster.
That wont be a kit, its just a combo of parts. Honestly it sounds like you have a lot of reading to do before jumping into the LS world. If you like books, this one is pretty good to get your feet wet https://www.amazon.com/Build-Modify-...ords=LS+engine

Welcome to PT.
You should follow Atomic's advice and do some reading to get an idea of common terminology and references before you get anything going. Books, ls1 tech is a gold mine of info, and of course PT. Read through stickies or just follow up on builds and get a good idea of what you want.

Yea atomic is spot on. Your best bet would be a good Na setup going to be a lot less headache for you to figure out and get the job done for a much more wallet friendly price tag. Definitely do some reading to familiarize yourself like they suggested and were you planning on tackling this yourself or having someone do this work for you??

As said before, reading and research is your best friend. In my opinion, as are most on this site, your best bet for your power goals will be a 5.3 or 6.0 LS swap. Google as much as you can, find as many books about LS engines as you can, anything that will advance your knowledge about what you're wanting to do to your truck. When I was figuring out my setup, Google was my best friend. But if you're really as green as you say, don't be afraid to ask questions. Some of the terminology can be confusing. The search option in this forum is also a very valuable tool. VERY valuable.
