Default Best Sounding Muffler for Big Cam

Hey guys

I have a lq9 with prc stage 2.5, 231/234 111lsa cam, 1 7/8 arh lts with no cats. I do have a qtp cutout, but with it closed I find my borla XR1 oval muffler to not really let the cam thump. Truck idles 875-925, but the borla just isn't doing it for me.

I do crack open the cutout, and it sounds much better, but then it becomes INSANELY loud, and resonates badly under the cab(where the cutout is)

I've watched countless videos online, but its all vettes and camaros, which have a completely different midpipe and pipe lengths.

More looking for just the muffler, as my y pipe, cutout, and tailpipe are all custom bends. 3" also.

Thanks for suggestions and videos if u have em.

Look into a Cherry Bomb extreme muffler. That's what I have on my little 4.8, and it sounds amazing. I just wish it had the power to back up the bark lol. Watch some videos on it though, It may be a little too loud for a DD with your set-up.

You could lower the idle a little. Seems high.

For what ive been told from my tuner, the idle is as low as it should be with my compression ratio and cam selection.

I think my issue may be I have the xr-l oval multicore. Been listening to some xr1 round 5" x 15" and they sounds prettttyyyy sweet

Looking for a better quality item them a cherry bomb, thanks for the input tho.

Muffler will sound drastically different on my truck with no cats, 3" exhaust, 12.5:1 compression and a 111lsa tho

In my experience mufflers without chambers have all sounded too raspy. The perforated-tube type work well for flow but don't deepen the sound and pop too much. I've had many different mufflers over the years and finally ended up with Hooker Aerochambers. Excellent idle rumble with a big cam and they don't resonate. They combine chambers and perforated-tube.
I didn't much care for dual Magnaflows, made the boosted 383 sound like a tractor.
