SCRA and Chase bank 1099 misc tax form
Not sure how many of you have dealt with this. I got a letter from the IRS stating I received income from chase on a 1099 form from 2011. BTW, never recieved.... Well, under the scra (service members civil relief act) it drops the interest rate for your home to 6.00%. Furthermore, chase drops it to 4%. Well, they are claiming the extra 2% as earned income toward me and my wife, which really jacks my taxes up. This makes me owe the IRS over 600$. I have called Chase twice. The first time they say, "it's the way the IRS wants us to claim it". Then I talk to the IRS and they don't have a clue what is going on and really can't tell me much about it. I called Chase again and they say, "only one household member is supposed to claim the 1099" so, in result not only is the whole thing bull crap that I'm being claimed to earn additional income on something I am not, it is doubled because they send a 1099 for both my wife and I! anyone have to deal with this? Or anyone a tax professional?
