Default Out with the Old & In with the New

I know I've been quite lately, primarily due to the start of my career and buying my first home. However, things are starting to come back to life with the s10 now that I'm settling into a predictable routine. I'm not sure if I posted about the decision to swap the 5.3 shortblock for a LS1, but I expect to have everything together by the end of the month. Here's the build:

New:
02 LS1/LS6 Shortblock
GM 243 Heads with a "Performance Rebuild Cylinder Head Package" from Advanced Induction
Texas Speed 233/239 .595"/.603" Camshaft
Brian Tooley Racing Platinum Spring Kit with Titanium Retainers
SLR Hydraulic Roller Lifters
LS2 Timing Chain
Corvette Accessories

Everything else is staying the same, such as the ported FAST 78 & throttle body, longtubes(just re-coated), 78mm Nitrous Outlet plate system, etc.

Good to hear from you! Glad you are building that aluminum motor you have been wanting for a while now.

did you ever get that 10 second slip with the 5.3? I wouldn't swap the 5.7 until you get the 5.3 there 5.7 will just mean more traction problems for ya. BTW, the suspension combo that I recommended to you has put me at a 1.46 60' on drag radials so far....so if you're looking for a decent combo I have the recipe

Feel free to share your recipe with me to get that 1.46 60'. I will be needing it this spring!

Its no secret. Qa1 single adj up front w 350# springs, 2" drop monoleaf, caltracs, strange da shocks. I have djm lowers and speedway uppers but they arent necessary. I'm not wild about my speedway uppers anyways. Had clearance issues w the exhaust.

Unfortunately, I never obtained the actual slip. I pulled the needed trap speed and 60', but never during the same pass. I would have waited, but I ended up busting the oil pan on some sh*ty GA state road and needed to pull the motor to swap the pan. This is where I made the decision to go ahead and swap the shotblock, since the motor would already be out.
If I don't get my current setup to work the way I would like it to, I will definitely be replicating your setup...I'm not far from it anyways.

Well....I'm here to report, I finally got this thing up and running!
Had her up and going a few months back as well, but the 2009 built FTL lvl4 told me it needed freshening up (lost 3-4 clutches), so I had the trans sent back to Chuck for some upgrades (4L70E output shaft, deep truck pan, Sonnax Smart Tech Input Housing Kit, input sprag assembly update, reaction shaft, smart shell update, overrun piston update, performance pack update, spacer plate update) and the convertor sent back to Dave for a restall (converted to a "3400 LS Power Adder Series" for the planned 250 shot). Dealt with a P0742 issue after re-installing causing the converter to attempt to lock up while in park. Ended up being a ground issue. Currently, have a rough tune on it that does the job, but there is still room for improvement. Have yet to hook up the spray. I want to get everything ironed out on motor first (including dialing in the suspension). I will say, the truck pulls damn hard, especially compared to my bolt-on G8. Haven't been "fast" in quite some time. Shouldn't take too long to build my ***** back up though. I don't have many current photos due to the truck looking like a terd as of now. However, I just dropped her of with the body man and paint will be applied shortly. Thinking of painting her the same color as my fiancee's 11' Denali, storm grey metallic. Thinking that would look bad *** and even more so when pulled behind the Yukon. Plus, I feel like I need to change it as a local guy around here completely replicated my truck. Saw a picture and thought for sure it was mine. I'll continue to provide updates here and post some pictures/videos.

So I swung by the paint shop today to test the fitment for the vette coil covers I plan to put on. I've noticed a noise that seems to be getting louder. Before I was thinking it's just these noisy LS valvetrains in combination with the FAST intake manifold, but now I'm thinking otherwise. The phone doesn't do a great job of picking up the deep tone/knock it produces. Hopefully, it's nothing, but I'm finding metal in the oil (pulled from the dipstick). The noise tends to dissipate once brought to operating temperature. Oil level is spot on. Since the motors been put back together it's been through the break-in oil (roughly 100 miles), standard oil (another 100) and this oil (50 miles) that was put in during the same point in time as the reinstall of the transmission. Take a listen and tell me what y'all think:
