So far this is the closest thing I've found that sounds like what I'm dealing with:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZo89iUCOWY

He ended up saying, "no never did the car still does it now has 58k and has heads cam and nitrous. gotta be piston slap when the car is hot you never hear it but cold it sound like a knock." in response to, "Did you ever find the problem?"

Oil pressure looks good as far as I can tell:

This dang thing is still very noisy on a cold starts but is roughly 85% gone once brought to operating temp.

Here are the results from cutting open the oil filter:

After seeing the "small" amount (lesser than expected) of metal, I filled her back up with some of this goodness:

What are y'all's thoughts? Does this look to be acceptable for a rebuild with roughly 250 miles on it?

It doesnt look like bearing to me. Maybe just a little trash from the machining process. Drop the oil filter again at 500 miles and see if its better or worse.

I should know where I truly stand on the next oil change. I'll send another sample off to be tested. If those numbers get closer to the average, I'm in good shape, if they increase.....hopefully they won't!

what I think your hearing is the typical piston slap that comes with most aluminum ls motors. My tbss does it as well on cold start up and quietens up once fully warm. The original tune even has settings for it. Nothing to worry about. I rebuilt the ls2 in the ss myself and its been like this since day one. has around 30k on it now since rebuilt. Wife drives the hell out of it lol!!

Well, so far she's held up just fine. I've yet to send off for another oil analysis, but I'm thinking the noise was the common "piston slap".
She cleaned up nice for our wedding day and performed a beautiful exit burnout!
