Default My rides...

I am a noob here, and thought I would post up some pics of my s10s...Both of them are newly finished projects. The gray/red one is my street queen with a 5.3l/4l60e. The blue one is a little more purpose built with a 350 on pane, sm465, and 205 feeding one ton axles and 38" tires. Both of these trucks provide some good entertainment, and continue putting a smile on my face every time I mash the skinny...

I am having some trouble with the driveshaft in the street truck...It has the double cardan (sp?) joints at both ends of the rear part of the shaft, and the back joint is getting some slop. I was wondering if I could just replace the two piece shaft with a single shaft with just regular ujoints? It seems like this would be a lot easier to service, and just easier to deal with all together. Is there some reason why a one piece wouldn't work in that truck? Thanks for any insight you might have.

The Square body dime is SWEET. Love it. As far as your DS on the other one there is no reason that a single piece DS wouldn't work most places i have talked to wont go over 86" on a one piece and i doubt you are even close to that.

Thanks for the reply. I will check with the shop to see if they can build a shaft for me.

Be careful with going to a one piece shaft. Not sure if you ever plan on lowering your truck or not but if you do you'll need to clearance the underside of the cab as itll hit when going over bumps. Nice truck by the way.

Thanks! This truck will never be lowered. It will actually get a long travel suspension up front, and the back may have to come up a little to match up. I still haven't had a chance to go look for a shaft. Someone gave me the idea to look for an aluminum shaft and have it lengthened...is aluminum a better choice for this kind of truck??

Very Good truck. When I see the first photo I thought that its cool but in the very next photo you just showed an open head truck. Which is increadible incredible. But the other photos on mountain are also really attractive. I also want to do fun like this but I have not enough time to do this because I am quite busy in my new job. Anyhow keep enjoying man. Your ride is awesome.

Yeah you do...they are nice to fit on the trail beeing narrower than a fullsize. If you build one you may want a short wheelbase though...I am currently building a steering 9" for the rear of that blue truck to let us navigate through the trees a little better.

I had an interesting experience while driving the s10 the other day. I was on a smooth rock road slowing down to turn into the shop when I hear a loud bang. The truck immediately viers left hard and the engine dies. With no power steering I struggled to keep it on the road, but did manage to steer it into the yard by the shop as it coasted to a stop. Upon inspection, it looked like the upper control arm bolt on the back side of the passenger upper a arm either sheered off or came completely loose and fell out. This allowed the arm to rotate around and get into the wiring that goes to the starter. Actually it broke all the posts off of the starter and shorted out the wiring. The positive battery cable melted out of the battery...never saw that before. I have it all torn down now, and I haven't had a chance to try to get it restarted yet. I plan on picking up a new battery today. I had a spare starter that I put on already. Hopefully it only fried the battery and starter, but who knows...I have some pics on my camera. I will try to remember to pick it up at lunch.

I did get my driveshaft problem fixed a while back though. I actually found the shaft and axle yoke from an older extended cab s10 that was a ujoint style instead of the double cardan...it swapped right in.

I got the electrical system repaired last night, and it started and ran good. That was a relief! Now I need to round up the suspension parts and throw the front end back together. I did find while taking the front end apart that one of the bolts holding the upper control arm on sheared off. That is what started the chain reaction of bad stuff to follow...

Here are some pics of what it looked like after.
