Just started my L with the new motor in it a couple days ago. It runs nice and smooth, but has a pinging noise. It almost sounds like a diesel! I wonder if it could be because the truck is still on the old **** tune, or if is because the timing is off??? I am 100 percent clueless. I would greatly appreciate any help. I can't WAIT to see how it sounds with the ported blower, and blocked off silencer holes! Thanks a lot Joe
Yeah, it is still running off of the old tune. But I can't take it out right now. The guy who dynoed my truck old me my first predator was ****, and supposedly gave me a "new one". The one he gave me will not even turn on. So now I have to go back again and get a new predator!

good luck, if your predator wont turn on you might have to get your truck reflashed by the dealer, Predators, SCT's, etc lock itself to the VIN of the truck so you cant program multiple trucks. Happened to me with my 2002 Lightning and a Predator, it was not fun. The pinging might be detanation. I would drive it as little as possible until you get your tune fixed.
BC, well that sucks! I guess I'l have to talk to my old dyno guy and see if he still has my old predator laying around so I can upload the factory tune.

if the new one wont turn on check the fuse that runs the cigarette lighter, its just a small 20amp. i had that problem, i was pumping up my slicks and a buddie used the cigarette port in stead of the power port to plug in the pump and blew the fuse so i thought the programmer took crap, the guy at predator told me thats its really rare that they just wont trun on its usually something in the truck.so i changed the fuse and everythings good. but the cigarette and OBD port share the same fuse just and idea. and does it make the noise all the time or just when it starts up.
I thought detonation was just during boost.I've never heard of it happening otherwise.
as long as there is somthing hot enough to light off the fuel you can get detonation. if it dose it too long it will take pits out of the pistons and and make a rough spot that will stay hot and the motor will detonate no matter what what you do.
the pistons rattling in a deisle is from the compression and loose clearences between the piston and cylender wall. If it accualy sounds like a deisle the pistons could be too loose in the bores and rataling.
i have a frend thats race car kind of sounds like a deisle (though the knocking is not as loud) for about 5 to 10 minits because of the clearence he runs to allow the forged pistons to swell in his race motor he runs 15:1 compression and nitrous so the combustion chamber gets get extreemly hot. For some reson it seems amc engins need more clearence than chevys and fords. we have had problems with swelling pistons and ripping them apart with a clearence that is fine in a chevy on our race engins you can sometimes slide the pistons into the bores without using a ring compressor
