Default Lightning cam and other mods

was up guys. First ford truck ever owned. About 2 months ago bought 01 lightning from the original owner. 60K miles

current mods
4lb lower pulley
obx headers
bassani exhaust
pvc delete
oil catch can
rousch lowering kit
lakewood traction bars
dyno tuned 387 hp/ 467 torque

I want to cam this truck. what other supporting mods do i need to cam. Or can i just have a cam put in be done.
what kind of cam and size? i just want a mild cam
Any other mods
I know truck will have to be re tuned.

I don't plan on taking this truck to the track. this truck is basically a weekender on the street

thanks for any inputs

Cams in the 5.4 are not the easyest thing to do. Hope u know your way around that style of engine.

I will more than likely have the cam install done by someone with experience.

Just needed to know if having upgraded cam will be ok on the stock motor. stage 2 or stage 3

while every thing is off should do the heads too?

Thanks for any inputs

for the money you are going to spend on the cams and the install you would be better off getting a KB or a Whipple and being way more happier at the end of the day....

i wouldnt recommend putting a cam in a stock bottom end lightning. your not going to gain a hole lot without porting the heads. here is the basics you need

6lb lower
TR6 plugs gapped .034
CAI
single blade throttle body
port the eaton
valve body for tranny
2400 stall converter
traction bars
BA2400 or BA2600 MAF or MAFIA maf
JLP ice box if you end up racing
The most important part to the truck a tune from a LIGHTNING TUNER. you get a quality tune with these mods you should be around 420rwhp/520rwtrq and a low to mid 12 second truck.

Not to take anything away from this site but if your a lightning owner come over to LightningRodder.com due to there not being much L traffic on this site. Personally i recomend JDM for tuneing. my truck is tuned with a email tune

another option would be a 2.3 whipple or 2.3kenne bell, 60lb injectors, twin 255lph fuel pumps, BA 2400 or so MAF, 4lb lower, NGK TR6 plugs. with this option with a quality tune you will be around 470rwhp/570rwtrq. with traction you will have a 11 second street truck, but remember the rods are weak in these trucks.

IF i can recommend anything get a Quality Lightning tuner to tune the truck so it will live. here is who i use

if you stick with these mods i would change to a 6lb pulley. upgrade the MAf if isnt already, CAI (i like the AEM 98mm with polished tube) put a valve body in the truck and get a new tune.

Before going WOT you need to do some checks on the truck, check the plugs, change all fluids, clean the innercooler under the supercharger. with the numbers you posted its probably on a safe tune. it should make more hp/trq than that.

hope all this helps. PM anytime

Its 2 cams bud, one for each head. 4valves have 2 per head.

Op your better of getting, you blower ported or just moving up to a twin screw. Its to much work and money for the little gains you will get. Just move up to a 6lber and ported blower and a really good dyno tune.
