Default stock bottom end BBC potential

we've all heard stories about how ls engines can handle well over 1k hp with a turbo, but im interested to know how much a 454 could handle with a stock rotating assembly and a big turbo?

i think anyone who builds old school big block always upgrades the bottom end for anything over mild upgrades just for the security

This is what I recall from about 20 years ago. Should be about right. The cranks are good for 700 fwhp, pistons 450ish but not over 500 and rods 6-700 fwhp depending on which rods. That is stock NA. Forged...different story.

Basically, what this guy said.

I believe the 700FWHP is with a factory steel crank. IIRC the regular cast ones couldn't go much past 500 as they tend to flex and come apart

We always put forged pistons and rods in our 427 copo camaros for these reasons. Of course ours are N/A and probably over kill, but eliminates any worry.
