RCSB with a 228R sucked in the 1/8!
Guy's picked up my old truck from a buddy of mine, the is a rcsb step side, long tube's, yank 3600,cai,4.10s with a auburn locker, texas speed 228, here's the deal, when he installed the cam it had a tick but not all the time, so he took the heads off and I bought the truck with the heads off, any way put it back together and still ticks sometimes,( any way got off track), had the truck tuned, felt good on the highway, go to the track and the bitch want get out of the 9's in the 1/8, went 8.86 before cam?, one thing I no is killing it I think is that out of the y-pipe it's got 2.5in pipe and and a flowmaster, I've got a 6.2 exhaust that's going on it but just looking for some other ideas or comparisons. THANKS!

Sounds like something is wrong with the tune or the cam install. It is possible it is knocking and its pulling a lot of timing. Did you check pushrod length or guesstimate? I am not a fan of the 228r for trucks. However, you have the supporting mods to make it work in a rcsb. Something is off for sure. I wonder if the ticking you are hearing is an exhaust leak.

Ive done smaller and bigger cams. Sometimes smaller simple combos are better when playing with less cubes and 4200+ race weight. With 5.7+ cubes i wouldnt blame the cam at all. Or an all out race 5.3 application with 4,500+ converter.
Example, na my 5.7 ls1 ran better on a 226/226 budget heads with a truck intake, smaller exhaust than a 231/239 with a ported fast 90mm and bigger exhaust with a bigger converter and nicer heads. The dyno said i made 30ish more rwhp, but the track (where it counts) disagreed.
Figure out the noise. Compression and leakdown test. Did you replace lifters while the heads were off? That cam should still run damn good.
