lol and actually I thought that was pretty high. I went with a 10cc dished piston because I thought I'd go with a blower soon and it was the least amount of dish available. Flat top pistons would have put my compression ratio through the roof and too much for pump gas. Being pump gas friendly was always a concern too.

I felt that 11.4 was a good balance for NA power and later getting the heads done with the combustion chambers cnc'd so I'd end up in the high 10's for compression making for a decent street blower combo with E85.

Once I get my Ported L92 intake sorted out I feel the power levels and mid range torque should make the truck pretty fun. The fuel rails I just ordered from Holley are apparently made for their "sniper" manifold and don't work on the factory manifold. So now I'm gonna have to make a set of LS3 rails fit.

That and I'm having my torque converter re-stalled higher and changing the shift firmness in my valve body so it should make my truck a lot more fun to drive.

I'm still thinking about the BTR cam - it'd probably still make the same power but would be nicer to the valvetrain.
Ahh that makes sense if you're thinking about boost in the future. 11.4 is definitely no slouch, just ls engines can really handle some compression.

This conversation 20 years ago would have people scratching their heads lol

Definitely sub'd for future developments.

Picked these guys up the other day off Amazon. Everyone seems to be saying they are the same at Matco brand and they appear to be well made.

I'll be testing them out on my buddies sand rail tomorrow to verify another shops diagnosis.

Yeah I agree - pretty crazy how they handle the compression. Guess it really boils down to dynamic compression ratio and combustion chamber design.

Also, this isn't a 1/4mi truck either. It will see high temps and high load for long periods of time so I was a little wary of too much compression for that reason too. And I think I just talked myself into that BTR cam, haha!

As far as the testers go mac matco and cornwell all use them and i do believe the blue point version snap-on sells is identical as well.... Definitely good tools to have around.....

For an update - I decided to port the stock L92 intake manifold and ditch the Hi-Ram. Ported the TB as well and matched the ports to the head the best I could and the TB to the intake, which was off quite a bit actually.

Wow was I ever happy! Bottom end torque rediscovered!

I could definitely tell there were some flat spots in the tune due to the intake swap so I decided to try my hand at tuning, so I bought 2 credits and spent the day on the PC learning how to Tune.

Got some base runs logged and went to town. I knew the Timing was dialed in since it was tuned with a wide band and knock on the dyno so I didn't touch the timing tables to adjust spark. Set the idle lower, messed with the PE and VE a smidge here and there, only increasing fueling. Also increased the rev limit and shift points since it was only shifting at 6600. Was supposed to be at 6800.

Well - I got on the freeway tonight, loaded it up on the onramp, Let it rip! First felt good, shift to second spun the 37" tires pretty good, on up to 3rd gear where I let off. Rolled the windows up, turned on the AC, and after about 4miles thats when I heard it.

My engine now sounds like a sewing machine. My best guess is a broken valve spring, loose rocker arm, or a trashed rollers either on the rocker or lifter. Truck still ran great - idled nice - decent torque. It just sounded like a sewing machine coming from the drivers side head.

I'm guessing my cam is too aggressive for these springs and popped one and since it's a dual valvespring setup, the second spring is keeping the valve off the piston. Or crossing my fingers it's a loose rocker arm and I can get away with a clean and inspect.

I'll tear into the head sometime this week.

Where's my easy button?

I pulled the valve cover and did a visual inspection and saw nothing out of the ordinary and my mind went straight to "it's a spun rod, great"

But then I wiggled a couple and that's when I found the culprit.

I tried to snug the adjuster down but it was hanging on something. I pulled the rocker out and inspected the threads and it looks like there might have been some Swarf that didn't get cleaned out on top of the threads and may have prevented me from getting an accurate torque on the adjuster bolt.

Cleaned it and readjusted the lash/preload and the bitch fires right back up quiet as a cucumber.
