Default Messed up bad broke #1 headbolt

So upon re installing my driver side head I messed up really bad. My torque wrench wouldn't click at 22ft/lbs and so I just kept tighting. I don't know why I new it was way to tight. Anyway bolt snapped and now Its broken covering all the threads in the block and bellow the deck surface. I am literally sick to my stomach can someone please help? what should I do? I really do not want to pull the motor truck has 190 000 miles so if its not do able its probably just going to get parted out.

head bolt at 22ft lb? do you mean rocker bolt? head botls go way tighter than 22ft lb.

either way, run over to northern or harbor freight and get an ez-out kit. it shouldn't be the end of the world.

When the bolt breaks all the tension should be released in the bolt so you should be able to twist it out relatively easily.

Depending on how the bolt sheared, there may be a counter rotating lip on the bolt that would allow you to stick the upper piece of the bolt in the hole, press down firmly and back the broken piece out of the hole. This actually happened to me with an ARP head bolt after a torque wrench malfunction.

fwiw, the first time I pulled one of my heads I broke one of those upper bolts aswell. it was the very last bolt I had to tighten so I took a gamble and fired it up to see how it would run. it ran fine and it ended up staying like that for a couple years and never had a problem. when I pulled the motor I fixed it.
it was only a cammed 5.3 tho with not a lot of power
not something I would suggest at all but if the motor got damaged it was just an excuse to upgrade at the time. lol

22ft lb is just the first pass of 3 torque sequences. Still I cant believe I kept tightening it when I didn't hear any click from the wrench to that point!
