Help.. anyway to recover the 5.3??
Is there anyway to recover a bolt that gets dropped inside the block?
Was removing the knock sensor valley cover and a bolt from the side slid and went inside through the little hole were you can see the cam.
Is dropping the oil pan the only way to get it or is it screwed if I dont find it when I do drop the pan?

How big is the bolt that fell? Will it come out the drain plug hole? I would drain the oil and stick a long magnet in the pan. If you don't get it, you might try to blow compressed air down the hole where it fell to make sure it makes its way to the bottom.
If you need to turn the engine over to make it fall be careful to not foce it against something. The best way to do this would be to remove the spark plugs, and back off the rocker arms so there is very little resistance.

Thanks for the replies guys, the bolt that fell is a bolt from the knock sensor valley cover, went to pry it up the cover because it was stuck and popped to hard and down went the bolt..
Though about turning the crank from the lower pulley and then using a magnet from there, dropping the pan is the last thing i want to do since my trucks frame is about 3-4 inches off the ground, currently sitting on two cynder blocks and i could barely even slide my head in without having metal 1-2 inches from my face!

Thanks for the input, i did see the sensor on the side will try that for sure before pulling the pan.
I also searched on here and found that the bolt could be left in the pan?
Wont get sucked in by the oil pump and will just chill in the bottom without causing harm? Is there any thruth to this.?
