The 3.42 and 3.73 9.76 carriers are different than the 3.23 so we cant just swap the R&P
I tried to get the dealer to do that on my new order .........no GM 3.73 R&P for the 3.23 carrier although I hear someone making a ring gear spacer to use with 3.73 gears ......

you are saying the SLE and all terain get the 8sp there for its a 3.42 max tow

And that SLT 6sp max tow is 3.73? Am i undersanding correctly?

Actually I ordered a SLT with All Terrain package

the 5.3 with Max towing is not available in SLT Max Towing with 5.3 is 6 spd only but gets 3.73 9.76 rear

6.2 is only available in SLT / denali with 3.23 with I assume 9.76 rear
Max towing with 6.2 is 3.42 gear

Hope that makes sense I did not key in all the combos with 5.3 Max tow but for sure does not come up when you select SLT

Why not order a 6.2 SLT max tow 3.42? because you wanted the all terain addition which doesnt have the max tow?

you can get a max tow 5.3 SLT but it will be a 3.42

Yes 6.2 did not want Max tow as came with the big mirrors .......so will regear to 3.73 if possible

NO max tow with 5.3 with any gear comes up for me when you select SLT package but yes a 5.3 with 3.42 9.5 rear end is std in a SLT but Max Tow pkg not available from what have no only max tow in SLT is the 6.2 on my screen

OK .... this is why its confusing .....what you show there is the Max tow for the 6.2 if you go further you would see the 5.3 8spd was kicked out and you need to select 6.2 .....
.In the SLT package only 1 Max Tow pack available it forces you to the 6.2

But when you go into the lower models it will show
2 Max Tow packages ....this is the one that forces you to select 6.2 8 spd auto

and Max Tow 5.3 which which is 3.73 9.76 axle only with 6 spd auto


Anyway my point was the towing wts for the
5.3 with Max tow 3.73 and the 6.2 with the 3.23 axles ( no max tow) are the same which I found surprising about 9600lbs for each

I get your point,my point was you can get a NHT max tow 5.3 SLT

This could make it simple according to GMC.com chat this truck is a NHT 5.3 8sp SLT Max tow 3.42
