Wasnt the 8speed a collaboration between gm and chrysler? Or was it gm and ford, either way, chrysler and ford both have their own trans problems, at least gm typically builds a decent trans most of the time on their own!! Yeah they have issues, but at least they will hold up to stock vehicles longer than the other two typically do... dont know anyone with a ford with 250,000+ miles that has the original automatic in the vehicle!!

It puts all of the power through the transmission during the shifts hammers the clutches and planet gear. I did 3-5 WOT shifts and didn't feel comfortable with leaving TM off anymore.

Not hard nowdays...... the 6L80E and 6R80 Ford don't share very similar names by sheer coincidence lol.Not to mention the 6 speed front wheel drive transaxles.... upcoming 10 speed.... all the same. And let's look at the mortality rate of 700R4 and 4L60/65/70E transmissions in 250000 miles..... pretty sad. The 8 speed is all GM's baby...... it's loosely based on the ZF trans like Chrysler and a bunch of other makes use, but GM had to take it and mess it all up all on their own, to in their mind make it better....

I have actually seen quite a few 4l60 derivative trans last over 250,000 without issue, had read somehwere that either the 6l80 or 8l90s were a meeting of the minds... or smashing of heads, however you care to look at it when gm/ford/chrysler come together... i think gm and ford swapped seat designers somewhere around 2007, i really like the nbs bucket seats, but nnbs seem too much like the older generation ford truck seats... took me forever to get to the point i actually started to like the nnbs seats!!

Strangely enough I've never had a 4l60 failure and I've had probably 7-8 although the 07 was the only making half decent power. Not quite sure how some people kill stock ones but they do I guess.

Burn outs is the quickest way.

Meh... driving them. I killed a 700r4 behind a throttle body 350 by driving it.. it isn't exactly difficult to do. It had about 140000 miles on it when it decided to slip in every forward gear. They aren't a terrible transmission but to blanket them like they actually last any decent amount of time is pretty ridiculous. Transmission shops make their living off them.... And it's funny how on a site where anyone that mentions toying instantly gets this "upgrade to an 80e" suddenly has some love for the transmission everyone seems to want to hate. I have never been in a truck with 250000 miles and has an original 60e... and that's a lot of trucks... most of them had far less miles and were on number 2 or 3..

Well there you are that's why! I don't do burnouts, they don't win races on the street. Not that I do that sort of thing you understand... Also I've never put over 220k on one lol.
