Default Lowering Options for K2xx with aluminum control arms.

Im wonder if anyone out there has tried lowering a 14/15 truck with the aluminum arms. If so, what did you use and can you share some pics?

Ideally Id like a 3/5 drop, but my 14 All Terrain has the aluminum arms so the McGaughys 34170 kit wont work. The specs on the truck are: 14 6.2l crew cab with 6.5' bed, 4wd.

Im curious to see which trucks the aluminum arms came on, perhaps its an All Terrain/High Country item?

First time posting here instead of just lurking, but I thought i might be able to help you out.

I had lowering arms from DJM and they didn't fit even though they told me they would. The aluminum arm trucks use larger size ball joints than the steel arm trucks. Supposedly they found a ball joint that will work but then suddenly no one would return my calls and I haven't herd from them since.

Currently I'm looking at McGaughys 34204 or possibly trying to put factory ball joints in the DJM arms I have sitting here, or as a last resort trying to find someone with steel arms to swap with

Would love to hear about any experience anyone might have with the new McGaughy's part

I wonder if you could have the spindles machined out by someone to except the ball joint I'd love to try the alum on my truck. Drop a few lbs

From what I understand you can just swap the spindles too and everything else is the same. The problem I had with the DJM arms is that my spindle was already too large for the ball joints so machining wouldn't help

I'm saying going with a lowered spindle and just machining that or cam the 4x4s not use drop spindles.

I swapped my 2wd over to aluminum parts and saved about 46 pounds. I haven't lowered it yet. If I remember right the aluminum ball joints are 1" and the steel are .875".

Oh I see what your saying McGaughys told me that their existing drop spindles don't have enough material in the upper ball joint area to accept the larger joint that's why they include new upper arms in thier new kit for the 4wds

Working on getting a set of custom arms built for the McG's 34170 kit. This should allow the use of the McG's drop spindles, and allow for proper angles up front on the aluminum arm 4x4 trucks. Ill post up some more info as soon as I have it!

Ted - do you have the Z71 package? I think that may be the ticket.
